2007 Pageant Results

The Toombs County Forestry pageant was held Saturday, March 10th at the Blue Marquee in Lyons.  Laura Johnson was crowned the 2007 Miss Toombs County Forestry Queen.  Laura is a graduate of Toombs County High School and is a student at Georgia Southern College where she pursues a career in Teaching.  She is the daughter of Dewey and Melissa Batton of Lyons, and Clarke Johnson.  Laura will receive a scholarship to the school of her choice at the end of her reign next March.  The new queen made her first appearance Thursday, March 15th when she traveled with director, Kerri Smith, and her mother Melissa to judge the Swainsboro Elementary School pageant.

Laura’s sister queens are as follows:  Teen Miss - Bree Kicklighter, daughter of Tommy and Wendy Kicklighter of Patterson; Junior Miss - LeighAnna Carter, daughter of Timmy and Kristie Carter of Vidalia; Little Miss - Kaitlyn Wilch, daughter of Jerry and LeAnne Manning of Vidalia; Tiny Miss - Kate Wilkerson, daughter of Freddie and Karen Wilkerson of Wilacoochee; Teeny Miss - Jayla Phillips, daughter of Jasper and Andrea Phillips of Ailey.

Randy Mosley, chief Forest Ranger, opened by welcoming everyone to annual pageant.  This year’s theme of the pageant was “Once Upon a Princess.” 2006 queens Mindy Adams, Chantel Smith, Madison Lynn, Calista Brogdon, Angel Humphrey, Ivy Martinez, and Lauren Hattaway, all dressed as a “princess” character.  Madison stole the show taking everyone’s breath away when she was introduced by pageant director, Kerri Smith, as the most memorable Princess of all times, Cinderella.  Entertainers for the evening were Chantel Smith, Hunterpaige McDaniel, Madison Lynn, Angel Humphrey, and Hunter Page. Mindy and Chantel were our lovely Mistress’ of Ceremonies.  Everything was a great success thanks to Millie Price, judge coordinator, and pageant committee, Haley Smith, Stephanie Sims, Elaine Conner, Dell Strickland, and Bruce Conner.

Queens will make appearances throughout the year promoting Forestry, Georgia’s number one Industry.  They will travel to Tifton in June to represent Toombs County in the Georgia Forestry Pageant. Jayla and Kate will compete on Friday, June 8th, Kaitlyn and LeighAnna will compete on Saturday, June 9th.  These girls will only have to compete onstage for their competition.   However, Bree and Laura have several things on their agenda for the next week.  They will go on a Tree Farm tour, Georgia Agirama Tour, have dinner with Tifton City officials, ride in a Motorcade thru Tifton, attend a Formal Ball, a private speech and interview session with each of the 5 judges and then they will be escorted by limo to the finale, onstage competition on Saturday, June 16th.

A send-off Luau will be held in honor of queens at 5pm on Saturday, May 26th at The Tapley Cabin.  All friends, family, & community are invited to attend.  Please RSVP by May 15th.

The Toombs County Forestry Pageant is a non-profit educational organization and is in need of sponsors to support queens throughout the year and to help pay state entry fees.  If you or your business is interested in sponsoring or if you would like queens to attend your event, please contact director, Kerri Smith at 293-5844 or Chief Ranger, Randy Mosley, at 526-8680.  You may also email requests to toombsforestry@yahoo.com.  Keep track of news, photo’s, and queens appearances on http://toombsforestry.tripod.com.
